In an industry that is know for it’s over consumption and waste, being more sustainable is something we are working hard at. This is such an important task within the fashion world and particularly in the bridal industry where we create dresses that most people will only wear once.
As wasteful as this may be there are now so many ways to ensure your wedding day look is as ethical as possible. Choosing an eco- conscious dress no longer means you have to compromise on style or quality.
Below are some of the ways we are minimising our environmental impact. Whether you have a bespoke dress made just for you, or choose from my customisable Portraits collection, or one off Cornucopia collection made in reclaimed vintage lace you are choosing a dress with a conscience.
We are proud that all our dresses are designed and made to order by hand in my studio. Nothing is mass-produced, or will ever go to waste. For my debut collection Portraits I worked closely with a handful of British suppliers and mills. Most of the fabrics are made to order for me in the amounts I require meaning no waste! I keep all my left over scraps for toiling new designs and making smaller components like covered buttons and bias binding.
At the core of my ethos is to reuse, reduce and recycle and I love offering brides the ultimate in sustainable dressing with my Cornucopia range. I collect vintage fabrics/ trims/ clothes and textiles everywhere I go and create beautiful new pieces with them to be loved all over again.
When creating bespoke designs for my brides I like to try to use up other peoples waste too by buying ex-designer and dead stock fabrics that would have been otherwise disposed of. This also means you get drop-dead gorgeous fabrics for a fraction of the price!
Most dresses are organic silk, which is a highly renewable resource with one of the lowest impacts on climate change of all fibres. Moving forward I am experimenting with even more sustainable options such as citrus fibre silk, bamboo silk and even organic cotton. A challenge I am very excited about.
I hope that you will love your dress so much you will want to wear it again and again but I also offer the option to have it altered to make it more practical!
The fashion industry is the second larger polluter in the world, a problem that thankfully is slowly being addressed by brands throughout the industry. Although each of our small steps cannot cure climate change, every choice we make can really add up to a big difference.
